Lesson 12

Last lesson we continue sanding our models in order to use the thermoforming machine.

first we cut the material, in these case we use PET but later we change it for syterene because we think its easier to cut and manage.
then we put the material in the machine .
The machine heated the material until certain temperature that we already programmed.
then we let the heated plastic fall into the models and we activated the suction.

finally we take it out from the machine and we separated the model from the plastic

we cut each one of the cars :)

Then we paint the cars according to the renders and finally we made a survey to see wich car will be choosen

11 lesson

In this lesson we learned about the Z printer.
The Z printer is in the laboratory upstairs. First of all the teacher explained to us all the devices, buttons and commands that the machine has and what they are for.

Then he explained to us step by step what we needed to do in order to print a model, what i thought was very interesting, is that in order to print there is a programme that checks the model a second time to be sure that everything is in order and it does not have any holes or errors; in these programm we can also scale, rotate ,duplicate etc

After doing this the machine accomodates the powder to have as little waste of material possible because the cost of manufacturing will be higher. The machine has a devide where all the material is collected so that you can use it again at a later date.

When the model is done you can apply resine to have a proper finishing. The resine has to be applied in equal proportions.

I think this way of making rapid prototypes is very interesting and useful to us as designers because we can have a very high quality and accurate prototype, however we have to be very careful with each step of the process and with the finishing.
